The laser can be used instead of or in addition to the dental drill to treat tooth decay (cavities).  It can also be used to treat tooth fractures, tooth gumline abrasions (notches) and to treat advanced gum disease (periodontal disease). Lasers promote a comfortable form of treatment which can eliminate the need for the use of scalpel, sutures, and decreased post-operative discomfort. Lasers reduce the chance of infection and swelling due to minimally invasive techniques. In most cases the laser can be used without the need for numbing.
